After a string of unsuccessful releases in the late sixties/early seventies with the band Northern Lights, it looked like Tina Charles was never going to hit the big time.

She soon went solo, and worked as a vocalist on a series of Top of the Pops cover records.

By 1975, Charles had re-teamed with Martin Jay, her partner from Northern Lights as the newly formed duo Airbus

Their debut single was supposed to be Bye Love - but this was swapped with the B-Side I'm On Fire as well as a name change to 5000 Volts.

The song became a worldwide smash and came to the attention of the up and coming producer Biddu.

He was impressed with Charles' vocal dynamics and in 1976 produced her first solo single You Set My Heart On Fire. Sadly, the single didn't set the charts on fire, so they released a second single
I Love to Love (But My Baby Just Loves to Dance).

The single reached Number 1 on the UK charts and was a minor success on the US charts

Other hit singles followed including Love Me Like a Lover, Dance Lady Dance  and Dr Love. In total, Charles spent 42 weeks on the 1976 UK charts.

In 1977, she recorded two more albums - Rendezvous and Heart 'N Soul, resulting in three hit singles Rendezvous, Love Bug and Sweets for My Sweet

By 1978, Charles' star was on the decline, but she still managed the smash I'll Go Where Your Music Takes Me.

While her 1980 album, Just One Smile, failed to make any mark she returned to the British charts with the 1986 remix of I Love to Love.
