The story of The Robin Hood Trilogy Special Edition

Comic Genius Production's story of Robin Hood began a long time ago back in 1995, when Ed Dolista & Ian Nash-Gilchrist were asked to write a new show for the newly formed theatre company, Doorstep Productions. With a love of swashbuckling, saving damsels in distress and general silliness, Ed & Ian came up with the idea that would make this new company a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately their concept of a musical version of "The Towering Inferno"  was clearly ahead of its time. So after regrouping, they came up with Robin Hood - The Untold story. With great scope for action and romance, they thought that this was a show that would would promote new talent both on stage and behind the scenes, as long as they both had the leads, creative control and ended up with Maid Marian. Held in the Shell Foyer at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre it starred Ian Nash-Gilchrist as Robin Hood and Ed Dolista as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

So successful was this show that it spawned two sequels - Robin Hood 2: the Sheriff Strikes Back and Robin Hood 3: the Third One.

Now in the early stages of the next millennium Ed & Ian have decided to revisit Sherwood forest once again with the Robin Hood Trilogy Special Edition. "Thanks to computer technology, we can add the scenes that we weren't able to do convincingly back in '95" says Ed in a recent interview. Ian adds "Plus we needed the money."

As an added bonus, a whole new show has been written to be part of the the trilogy - Robin Hood 4: Flogging a Dead Horse. "This ties up the trilogy nicely and answers a lot of questions the fans have been speculating about." says Ian.

The question remains with the imminent success of the new show is talk on the Internet of a prequel true?

Ed doesn't give away too much "Possibly. I know we'd all love to do it. But one thing for certain is that Leonardo DiCaprio sure isn't playing the young Sheriff of Nottingham."

The Robin Hood Trilogy Special Edition is produced in conjunction with the City of Greater Geelong and the Geelong Lyric Theatre Society and will be held at the Blakiston Theatre at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre. Click here for more details
