A native of Chicago, Barbara Pennington began her career when soul producer Ian Levine was arrived in the USA on a talent search.
Signing Pennington to his label, her hard work eventually began to yield results in the UK with the hits Running In Another Direction and Twenty-Four Hours a Day. This song, which peaked at #4 on the club charts, was re-released on 1978's Midnight Ride album, and also featured You Are the Music in Me which previously made the top 20 in 1977.
Her success continued into the mid 1980's culminating in her 1985 worldwide hit On a Crowded Street. Her European success continued till she retreated from the limelight in the 1990's.
