Formed in 1964
in Massachusetts by 5 brothers - Ralph, Antone 'Chubby', Feliciano
'Butch', Arthur 'Pooch' and Perry Lee 'Tiny' Tavares they were
originally called 'Chubby And The Turnpikes'.
In 1969, they renamed themselves after their family's surname. Early chart successes were on the R& B charts included 1975's Top 10 hit 'It Only Takes A Minute'. Their follow-up was the million selling smash 'Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel'. Their next release, 'Don't Take Away The Music' and the humorous 'Whodunit' also raced up the charts. They are best known for smash hit version of 'More Than A Woman', taken from 1977's blockbuster movie soundtrack, Saturday Night Fever. While their last chart success was in the mid 1980's, they continue to tour and enjoy a loyal following. |
