Formed in 1977 by Trevor
Horn and Geoff Downes, The Buggles were immortalised
in by their first single - the 1979 smash hit Video Killed the
Radio Star.
Taken from their debut album The Age of Plastic, the single topped the charts and two years later was the first video to be played on MTV thanks to an innovative video directed by Australian director Russel Mulcahy (Highlander). Three other singles followed Living In The Plastic Age, Clean, Clean and Elstree but failed to reach the hieghts of their debut single. Their second album, Adventures In Modern Recording, primarily released by Horn alone after a falling out with Downes was released in 1981 failed to contain any hits. The group disbanded soon afterwards, but by this stage both Horn and Downes had gone on to successful careers in the music industry.
